Massage for the Canine Athlete aka the standing massage

Course introduction:
For all those active canines out there!!
Also known as the "standing massage", techniques for animals that just won't lay down or are prepping for a sporting event are essential for every massage repertoire. If your canine is an always-active athlete or one of those dogs that just has a hard time 'turning it off' - check out this class!


Massage in a standing animal can be utilized in numerous situations:
  • Pre-event warm up / post-event cool down
  • Massage for animals that are uncomfortable / unwilling to lay down
  • De-escalation in overstimulating situations

Classroom time: 2 classroom hours 
​Cost: $86 USD 
Biosecurity:
  • Class sizes are small
  • Masks are worn inside the building at all times​

Pre-requisites:
  • Education & experience: None
  • Age: At least 18 years of at time of enrollment​​​​​
Required supplies: 
  • Note-taking supplies (pen & paper)​
  • A face mask, worn while inside the building at all times

Curriculum:
This class will focus on techniques to provide massage to the standing animal.  We have worked to bring you a training course that will provide the caregivers of those "can't shut it off" or "always active" "never lays down" animals with immediately-applicable, basic massage techniques and massage routines specific for the standing canine.

This course will cover the following topics:
  • Quadruped anatomy - standing and laying down
  • Attention span and perception of touch in the canine athlete
  • Working with pace, depth, and stroke direction
  • Bilateral stimulation and emotional de-escalation
  • Massage strokes for the standing animal

Upcoming classes:
There are currently no Massage for the Canine Athlete workshops scheduled.
