Body Mechanics & Practical Physiology
Practitioner 02

Course introduction:
This course is the second of the training required to become a certified animal massage therapist. This course is intended to develop skills and build on concepts introduced in Practitioner 01 (Introduction to Therapeutic Animal Massage).

The focus of this module is to hone the student’s skill in massage techniques, address specific animal demographic and lifestyle considerations, and prepare the student for interacting with professional colleagues. This course curriculum incorporates multimodal learning opportunities by utilizing self-paced online learning, small group size in-person training, hands-on practice with mannequins, and supervised interactions with volunteer clients and patients.
​This course consists of three parts:
  • Module 1: Self-Paced Learning – The self-paced portion of this course is available online for students to work through independently and at their own pace.
  • Module 2: In-Person Clinical Intensive – An in-person, intensive, three-day learning event at our Colorado school facility with small classroom sizes and a high teacher to student ratio. Plan ahead!!...view dates for in-person training here.
  • Module 3: Independent Case Work - Students will independently complete four case studies after successfully finishing both the self-paced and in-person course work.
Student must first successfully complete Practitioner 01 to enroll in this class.

Pre-requisites:
  • Education & experience: Successful completion of Practitioner 01: Introduction to Animal Massage Therapy
  • Age: At least 18 years of at time of enrollment

Course Objectives:
  1. Expand anatomic knowledge of regions commonly affected by clinical pathologies
  2. ​Develop competence in massage techniques
  3. Develop competence in safe animal handling techniques
  4. Develop competence in gait & conformation analysis
  5. Refine SOAP medial record techniques
  6. Introduce breed, age, conformation, activity, injury specific massage techniques
  7. Introduce concepts of immune system & disease transmission physiology

Module 1.     Self-Paced Learning (19 hours)​          
  • Review recorded lecture content at your own pace.
  • Complete written quizzes and exams included with each section.

Module 2.     In-Person Clinical Intensive (21 hours)  Plan ahead!!...view dates for in-person training here.​
  • Students who have successfully completed Module 1 are eligible for Module 2.
  • Join us at our school facility in Lafayette, Colorado for this 3-day clinical intensive training.
  • Clinical Intensive must be completed within 6 months of finishing the Self-Paced course work.
  • Technical skills competence is assessed by a practical examination.

Module3.​     Independent Case Work (36 hours)
  • ​Students who have successfully completed Module 2 are eligible for Module 3.
  • Independent Case Work must be completed within 6 months of finishing the In-Person course work.
  • Students will complete four case studies independently and submit case information for review and grading.
Student must first successfully complete Practitioner 01 to enroll in this class.
